lavender and honey cheesecake

I wasn’t planning on sharing this cheesecake recipe at first, but since I received many requests to share it this week after posting a picture on Instagram, I felt like I kinda had no choice but to do so!

i love lavender

Ever since I visited Maison Lavande last year (you may read about that hilarious post right here), I knew I was going to go back this year! So last week I decided to plan a road trip there with my Mom and the boys, and also with my aunt Lise-Ann who decided to join us as well, so early Saturday morning, we all piled up into my car and left for beautiful Maison Lavande. I’m pretty sure that everyone who visits Maison Lavande immediately falls in love with the place… and wants to go back after that… well I know did, and I know I will never skip a year from now on.

The moment I arrived I felt the same way I felt the first time I visited the place, just so quaint and peaceful. And as soon as they walked in, my Mom and my aunt both understood my obsession for the place! The lavender field is breathtaking. We took hundreds of pictures, just like everyone else in the field, as it’s just so pretty, so of course you want to bring those shots back home with you. Some professional photographers also offer sessions, and it’s something I may look into for next year!

So we slowly made our way across the field, walked into the forest trail, visited the chicken coop, had a picnic underneath an apple tree and ended our lunch with a delicious Lavender Frozen Yogurt! We also spent a lot of time in the quiet area at the back of the field where a couple of dozens of hammock chairs and some large bean bags are right there for you to use and relax. I wish we weren’t as tight on time so the boys could have taken a nap on the bags. They wanted too and so did I! Next time boys, for sure, like come on, a nap in a lavender heaven; count me IN!

Maison Lavande have two gorgeous boutiques where you can buy everything your lavender heart desires! Liam got a lavender essential oil roll-on (that I will re-create next week with my girlfriends at our first Essential Oils Make & Take) while I got a bubbly lavender and apple drink and a oatmeal and lavender cookie. The cookie was sooo good that I decided to attempt my own version on Sunday and it turned out AMAZING! I will be sharing my recipe later on this week.

So for now, here’s a few of the pictures I took trying to make you fall in love with the place. If you’re in the Montreal/Ottawa region, you HAVE to make the drive and visit. I wish I owned shares but I don’t so this is purely from my point of view… not sponsored or anything! Just for my love for lavender and for Maison Lavande! But you have to do it quick, because due to the massive heat wave last week, the flowers have exploded and the lavender season will be shorter than it usually is. So make plans to visit anytime in the next 2 weeks… as they’re opened every day. We might just see each other somewhere in the hammocks section!

beautiful maison lavande

Last year, a friend of mine posted a picture of herself and her mom in the middle of a lavender field.  It was gorgeous, and as soon as I saw that picture I knew I had to visit that place.  I had never heard of it before.  So I looked it up, only to find out that it was about 45 minutes away from my mom’s place.  It is called Maison Lavande.  While I was looking at their website, I saw so many incredibly gorgeous photos; and I couldn’t wait to go.  But summer weekends being so busy, it’s not easy to find time for a full Saturday for some ‘me’ time.

So it took almost a year, but finally, on Friday, with nothing planned for the Saturday, I called my friend Cath, told her where I wanted to go… and right away she was on-board and coming with me!  So we made plans, called Maison Lavande and booked us massages for the next day!

So on Saturday morning, with my big girl camera in my hand, I was ready to take some amazing shots!  To say I was ready is an understatement.  The beauty of the fields simply took my breath away.  It was calm, and pure, and serene, and it kind of smelled like heaven.  For a girl who loves lavender and use it almost every day, it was just perfect.  I fell in love.  Every little detail had been thought of: chairs in the fields, quiet areas, and cute little bistro with awesome food.  I could have sat there for the entire day, just doing nothing, just being present while surrounded with purple everything.

We got there early, there were not to many visitors yet and it felt like we had the fields for ourselves.  We started to take pictures while enjoying the beautiful scenery.  We met a young man, Alec, who right away made us feel welcomed.  We had missed the first tour, so he offered to give us a private tour.  Well, thanks a lot Alec!  He only had been working at Maison Lavande for a month, but he was so great and so helpful, especially when it was time to get some pictures of the both of us!  He showed us around, answered all of our questions and gave us tips on lavender.  Who knew lavender could be used to repel lice!  Thanks for the tip Alec… but hopefully a tip I’ll never have to use in my home!  He said the founders and their families were all working there.  It was built by family for family.  And it’s really the feeling you get when you’re there.  You feel like you know them and share their love for the place and for lavender.  If you decide to check it out, I suggest you seek out Alec, he’s the best!

So after the tour, we picked up our lunches and headed to the field to eat in some big purple Adirondack chairs.  We had ham and brie sandwiches with two salads.  We also had drinks included with our massage deal: ‘Moût de pommes pétillant à la Lavande’.  Not gonna translate this one, but it was simply to die for.  Bubbly, fresh, delicious with a subtle hint of lavender.  It was so good that I decided to buy some more to bring back home.  I highly recommend you to do the same!

After lunch we headed to the quiet area and waited for our massages.  WAIT FOR IT.  Our tree house massages!  Yep, you’ve read it right… Maison Lavande is now offering massages in a 40 foot high tree house surrounded by lavender fields.  How awesome is that!!!

So we got up in the tree house, got ready on the massage table and then the massage therapist opened up the curtains.  From my table, all I could see was the lavender fields.  It was one of the best massage experience ever.  The breeze on my back, the silence except for the sounds of nature, and of course, the smell.  I felt relaxed right away.  It felt sooo good!  All I could think of was like “OMG, this is the most awesome thing I’ve done in a really long time”.  And then… SLAP!!!  In an instant, weather changed, like drastically!  The curtains started to fly and hit me.  Huge winds blowing into the tree house, and then the storm… which seemed like the mother of all storms from up there!  It was so bad.  The therapist was trying so hard to secure the drapes but with all the wind it was impossible.  I was lying naked on the table, laughing so hard about all of it… and then the water started to leak from the roof down on my neck!  Let’s just say I got up really fast as it was really cold.  We both held down the drapes together, clad in my mini-robe, while trying to take a picture of the storm!  I just kept on laughing.  That poor girl, she felt so bad, but it was clearly not her fault.  Let’s just say that mother nature is kicking my butt this year… and this time it was my naked butt while in a 40 foot tree house… yeah, there’s a first for everything!

So once the storm had passed, we placed the table in between the roofs to avoid the cold water from dropping down my back and I tried to relax for the last 15 minutes of my massage.  One of the staff was waiting for us in a golf cart to bring us back to the main house.  Even with the rain, I can say that this was one of the best experience ever.  I will be going back yearly for a tree house massage at Maison Lavande… but next time, I will make sure there’s no storm in the forecast!

After our massages, we weren’t ready to leave yet, so we fed the chickens, walked on a pathway in the forest and then had lavender frozen yogurt. Delish!  We stopped in the boutiques to stock up on lavender products: cookies, olive oil, eye lavender pillow, essential oil and a lavender lemonade.  This place is just awesome.  I will be visiting Maison Lavande again, and you should too.  If you want to go this year, I would suggest you hurry, as the beautiful flowers are in bloom up until the beginning of August.  Book a tree house massage, try the delicious drinks, bring your own picnic or eat from the bistro, get some of their great products… and of course, take hundreds of beautiful pictures and savour the unique taste of lavender frozen yogurt.  It’s so worth it!

let’s talk essential oils

Where to start… there’s so much stuff I want to talk about… I know not everyone will be interested by this one, but I just love essential oils so much, it’s almost a passion for me now, that I wanted to let you all know about it!  First piece of advice, everyone should be open to try it out, at least once.  I’m pretty sure you would be impressed.

You know, I’ve been an avid Pinterest user since day one, and a few years ago I started to see lots of tutorial, how to, and information for essential oils.  I’ve had heard of essential oils, but I didn’t really knew about it.  So I was curious.  I started to pin a few things that interested me, and then eventually started to look for more in-depth information.

Let me tell you: you will find tons of information regarding essential oils, and I can’t say that everything is true, but I can surely tell you that so far, for me, it’s been awesome, and I’m now literally addicted to it.

There are a lots of companies that are now selling essential oils, but there are two big brands that surpass all the other ones for many reasons, and you should really read about all of it before deciding from which one you’ll be buying your products… so back then I started to look for the brand that’d fit my lifestyle better, and I chose Young Living.  And I’m so happy I did.

My first purchase was the starter kit, just to try it out, which consisted of a couple of the most popular oils, a diffuser and a few other gadgets.  I bought the kit with no expectation, but the moment I installed the diffuser, I fell in love.  The smell and the feeling were just amazing.

My favorite oil is definitely Lavender.  I know, it’s like the most common one, but it makes me so happy.  I always have a bottle in my purse and one in my room.  Every night, I put some Lavender oil behind the boys ears before bedtime, it’s calming, smells great and it makes them relax.  It’s also the oil we diffuse in our bedroom on most nights.  It’s our go to oil.  I just can’t get enough.  I also mix it with coconut oil and use it as a body moisturizer for myself and for the boys.

I’ve haven’t burned myself since I’ve been using essential oils, so I’ve never tried it on myself, but last summer, at a party, a family member burned herself with boiling sugar (it was actually melted cotton candy) and I offered to put Lavender essential oil on it, and it was a miracle.  No more pain!  Since then, matante (aunt) Lulu has bought some Lavender essential oil and started to use it before bedtime, and guess what, she now sleeps throughout the night, something she hadn’t done for years!

Second favorite, but really it’s tied for first place, Peppermint.  Goodbye heartburn, acid re-flux and motion sickness!  One drop on the roof of your mouth and bang… it’s gone.  It’s like MAGIC!  Everybody I know that have tried it are stunned.  Wish I had discovered essential oils while I was pregnant.  I was eating Tums like candy, but I will never have another one of these again…  Peppermint oil tastes and works way better.  It’s safe to ingest, so I also use it in tea and dessert.  That’s one of the thing with Young Living, their essential oils are pure and safe to ingest; which is not always the case with other company.  Even if it says ‘100% pure’ on the bottle, it is not necessarily 100% pure, so you should not ingest it.  But with Young Living, you can, it’s safe, and it’s great!

One other thing I do with Peppermint, I dilute it with coconut oil and rub it on my babies feet when they have a fever.  It’s a natural fever reducer.  Not only it’s a fever reducer; do you know what else I do with it?  When it is really hot outside, I put a few drops behind my ears, behind my knees and inside my elbows, and it helps me stay cool.  It’s great, as it helps me be more patient on hot summer days!

The third one is Thieves.  Everybody should have a bottle of this.  Thieves is an essential oil blend, it supports a healthy immune system and energizes your body.  It’s also a great cleaning product.  Young Living has a cleaning product line based with Thieves.  I use it on the bottom of our feet and rub it on my chest and back when I feel a cold is coming.  It can also be inhale and diffused in your home.  It has a cinnamon earthy smell.  Love, love, love Thieves.  If you want to get started, I recommend you get these three oils at first.  If you like it, then get some more!  There’s an oil for everything.

If you don’t find the oil you’re looking for, then you just mix them together.  I love to try different mixes and diffuse it in our home.  A few favorites are Joy and Lemon, Peppermint and Orange, and Lavender and Cedarwood.  Brian’s favorite is Stress Away.  I guess he needs it sometimes, I don’t understand why, but surely not because of me!

I don’t cook or bake a lot with my oils right now, but I really want to start incorporating them more in our cooking.  What I love is to add Lemon and Peppermint to my drinking water.  It just tastes so fresh.  But don’t put too much… if you use the Young Living oils, a couple drops will be plenty.

We now have two diffusers in our house; one in our bedroom (that we bring in the kitchen and living room every chance we get) and one in Liam’s room.  He now has his own Lavender bottle and every night he rubs the oil behind his ears and installs the diffuser by himself.  He’s so cute doing it!  One day we’ll have one for each room, but for now, they travel from room to room when needed!

So, I’ve promoted a big company and how their oils are so awesome, now I’ll promote a smaller one!  Couple months ago, friends of ours started their own wood working company and gave us one of their products as a Christmas gift, an essential oil holder.  So simple and so gorgeous.  If you’re into essential oils, you need one of these holders to keep your bottles in order! You can check out their website and place an order online.  We love our essential oil holder, and so will you!

This week, in order to promote my new mylemondroplife Instagram account, our friends from Scotty Wood Design have gladly offered to give away a custom made essential oil holder for my blog’s followers.  You’d like to win?  Then either become a follower of mylemondroplife on Instagram and like this week’s blog on essential oils or share my Facebook post.  The lucky winner, hopefully an essential oils enthusiast, will get a custom made essential oil holder from Scotty Wood Design.  I will draw the winner a week from now, on March 6th.  Good luck to all.  And a big thanks to Scot and Danika from Scotty Wood Design.  You guys are awesome; Young Living rules!

So, are you on the essential oils band wagon?  Would you like to join me on it!  If you want more information, let me know and I’ll set you right up!
