an harry potter kinda weekend

This weekend was nothing short of amazing. I’m exhausted today, but it was sooo worth it. I had been eyeing an Harry Potter concert in Montreal for months, and early last week, Brian got us three tickets for Saturday night; and I have been prepping ever since! Liam and I have been watching Harry Potter every chance we got over the last 6 months, and I knew he would love the concert. Logan, not so much! That’s why he only got 3 tickets!

So on Friday night, I organized the ultimate Harry Potter and the Sorcerers’ Stone viewing party to set the mood for the next day. I decorated the living room with floating candles, houses crest, books, more candles, and our wands, of course!

For the occasion I had baked a cake, prepared some nutella filled  “Howlers” pop-tarts, had some popcorn ready, filled lots of different sized jars with candy and chocolate, and displayed all of it on our huge credenza. We also brought up the kids playroom tv for the occasion. So once we got home from work and school, the boys played outside with the neighbors before inviting them to come inside and watch the Harry Potter movie and share the fun night with them. They had never watched the movie so I was very excited for them… they’re so lucky to see this movie for the first time! They all had lots of popcorn while Logan had way too much candy and chocolate; but still, he was the first one to ask to go to bed!

On Saturday morning we cleaned up the house and left for Montreal, while dropping Logan at my Mom’s place on the way there. We rarely go out with only one child. Maybe we should do it more often, but they pretty much like the same things, and it’s fun to spend some family time, so we always bring both of them with us, whatever we do. But on Saturday we decided that we would try to do this more often with only one of them since Liam just loved it, and I’m sure Loggy will too! Liam even told us couple times that he felt like he was on a vacation with the two of us! I thought it was so cute for him to tell us that. And I loved that he felt like that! I guess he needs time away from his brother once in a while!

So we went shopping with him… wow, so much easier with only ONE kid!!! Then we brought him over to Scarolie’s for diner; which is Brian and I favorite Italian place in Montreal (and has been ever since the first time we’ve been there on one of our first date back in the 90’s when we were just teenagers!). Liam loved his pasta, ate a lot of bread, and with a 4:30 reservation for three, well by 5:45 we were out of there and on our way to Place des Arts, Downtown Montreal. Once we made it there, Liam putted on his Gryffindor robe while I wore my Luna sunglasses. Liam and I had also both brought our wands! Good thing cause Liam would have surely wanted one, and they were like 50$… while mine costed around 1$ to make! Not bad, right? But of course we had to buy him something! So when he saw an owl stuffed animal who looked just liked a mini version of Harry’s, how could I say no! So he was walking in Place des Arts with his owl looking just like Harry!

So we made it to our mezzanine seats, and the concert hall was full. The show consisted of the second movie of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, on a large high definition screen with a live symphony orchestra playing the movie score. It was quite impressive to watch –and to hear– the orchestra, and sometime I would completely forget about the movie and just get lost and captivated by the music, and vice versa. Even though it’s a very long movie, Liam didn’t take his eyes away from the screen, even for a minute. Once the show was over, he told me he was coming back in June for the next movie. I didn’t even know that there was another show coming up. Guess he saw that somewhere! But of course we will be back. This will probably become an annual date with Liam… as we both like movies, music, and a bit of magic! So by the time we made it back to the car, Little Harry was pretty tired, and before we even got out of the theater parking lot, he was sound asleep.

Sunday consisted of visiting family and playing in a huge piles of leaves. We so lucky with this mild October weather that we are trying to spend has much time outside as possible.

We had a perfect Fall weekend. Hope you have a magical week my friends!

camp woods part II

Since this week will probably be one of the nicest we’ve had all summer, I think it’s a perfect timing for sharing the last few weeks of Camp Woods Summer 2017! In all honesty, and we probably all feel the same way here, even if I go back in memories, as far as I can remember, summer 2017 was definitely one of the worst summer ever. It feels like it rained basically every day, with everything outside being wet all the time, making it so difficult to plan ahead for a full day of activities, and apparently making it even more difficult for Brian to cut the grass weekly! Oh well.  Still, I got to say that I did enjoy my time off, but it feels like there were no memorable pool days or parties, and only a few bouncy-castle-day-out in the backyard, with everything depending on my weather network app while always waiting for the next sunny day to come by; and like I said, there was not a lot of them (but that didn’t stop us from having fun!!!).

Like I’ve explain before in Camp Woods 2016 and Camp Woods part 1 of 2017, I try to find activities that will interest the boys, as well as myself, with a theme, an outings or with meals. Early during my last week before I went back to work, Liam decided to join me in watching Harry Potter. I always knew he would love it but I wasn’t sure it was aged appropriate. But as I was watching the first movie, one morning while cooking, he joined me in the kitchen and sat on the counter and he was immediately glued right there. I changed the language to French for him (outch! so funny in French!) and explained that it was just a story, that everybody were friends in real life by showing him some pictures of the actors from the net, while making sure he understood as the story unfolded. So our last theme week was Harry Potter and just like that, a new addict was born!  Probably one of my favorite week ever, well, right behind the countdown-to-Disneyland-week we had last year, as nothing won’t probably ever beat that!

Since that last week off at home watching the movies coincided with the Harry Potter 20th anniversary, well, of course we made a cake! Just like the one Hagrid brings to Harry. Also made notebooks themed after every houses, of course I’m Gryffindor!  Oh, AND wands!  We had a blast making them; with chopsticks, glue gun and paint! Done within minutes and hours of fun. Of course, there is the occasional eye poke, but mostly, I was turned into a frog by one and then into a flower by the other!

We also had to have a Moana week. That movie, let me tell you, AMAZING, both for adults and kids. If you haven’t seen it with your kids yet, do it now! The soundtrack is just awesome, and it’s still is even after you’ve listened to it a 1000 times. We made Kakamora from real coconuts. They’ve learned how to open coconuts to release the water; and they do NOT like coconut water!!! So once empty, we painted faces on them and glued arms and legs. So fun to make. We found the cutest free Pinterest Moana Bingo and played so many games. And then we got dress up… I had to be Moana! Liam Pua and Loggy was Hey-Hey! Made leis out of ferns and flowers from our backyard. It was awesome… all that was missing was the ocean!

We had another Nemo week this year; but what can I say, we just love the movies so much! I was lucky enough to find the cheapest and best craft at my local dollar store: Felt Sew Kits of Dory and Nemo. Perfect for their first sewing experience. Made my mama’s (and lifetime sewer’s) heart so proud. Painted fishies with our hands and played for hours in the pool, all pretending to be lost fishes, just like Dory.

Star Wars week was cut short because we decided to go on a road trip last minute; but we still managed to make pool noodles lightsabers. Had a Star Wars pic nic, and played with our Tsum Tsum making stop motion animation. The boys love to do that; they could spend hours making them and watching them. I love when they can’t stop laughing at their own little short films!  So cute.

So, now that it’s mid-September already, I’m just like everyone else, wondering where the summer went. But all that will be shortly forgotten if this week’s perfect weather lasts for a while… cause with the next 6 weekends being jam packed with some of our favorite activities, it would make it so much more enjoyable with some great fall weather. And after the shitty summer we just got, come on, we deserve it!!!

Well, sunny or not, I’ve spotted my first pumpkin this morning, and it made me happy, cause Halloween is coming and everything is good in the world (well for me!) when it’s Halloween!!!

brunch, harry potter style

hp13

When I read; I dream!  So when I read Harry Potter, I was really into it, like as if I lived the Hogwarts life…  I imagined myself with them, the 4 of us, going through all of these adventures together, living the sorcerer’s life, while being Hermione’s BFF!  I was flying on my broom in Quidditch match, sleeping in the Griffindor dorm, while, of course, using as much as possible my very own wand… I just love those dreams.

Well last Sunday, it was kind of one of my dream come true!

I’ve heard 3 weeks ago about some sort of Harry Potter Brunch in Montréal.  Googled it, saw how cool it looked, and knew right away I had to attend.

But of course, I’m not the only Harry fan, and the tickets were sold out; I was devastated.  Finally, they added a few more brunch date options, and, oh yeah, guess who got her 2 tickets!!!

Brian was nice enough to attend with me… he’s not into Harry at all… so, well, let say we were at the complete opposite end of the excitement chart going into that event.  So I didn’t asked him if we was dressing up, but I would have loved to!!!

We made it to the Old Montreal, and as soon as I saw a red-vintage-English-style phone booth outside a restaurant, I knew we found the place.  From outside, le restaurant Les Intraitables is just so beautiful and elegant, but as soon as we made it inside, that’s when the fun began.  The place was turned into the Great Hall, with floating candles, long black tables, house flags and overflowing food!

Some people were dress like Hogwart students, some like certain characters, and then there was Lord Voldermort.  Once we were all seated, ready for our brunch, he came down the stairs with a HUGE snake.  A real snake.  From afar I was okay, but then he came closer, and closer, until he was standing right over my head… that when my knees started shaking.  Lord Voldermort was a VERY good actor.  He never cracked, and played the role to the perfection.  He could see that I was not enjoying this, yet he came inches from my face, so I close my eyes, but as soon as I opened them, he was right there and HISSED loudly right at me.  He surprised me, he scared the shit out of me, and of course I screamed as loud as I could have!

Then we enjoyed a delicious brunch, waffles, sausages, ham, quiche, meat pies, squash potatoes with bacon, croissant, chocolate croissant and for dessert, donuts, pumpkin bites and the best chocolate frogs ever!  Always eating while looking out for him as he was going up and down the stairs.

So the second time he came back, I was not looking at him, at all, I didn’t move, hoping he’d just ignore me, but no, that evil piece of sh*t stayed right behind me for a very long time, waiting for me to turn around, which I didn’t do, but which I should have done, cause I can honestly say that I thought I was going to die when he started petting my hair…

hp8

I do NOT like my hair to be touched by anybody,  Especially not by him.  Brian was laughing at first, but that’s when I saw in his eyes that he was becoming less and less comfortable and that he started to move away from me that it was not Voldermort hand playing in my hair anymore, but that fuckin python right on my head.  I had chills, I screamed, I was just terrified.  I still can’t believe that happened to me.

But then, I rewarded myself with a Butter Beer (the one for students of course!!!).  I was excited about it as I didn’t get the chance to have one when we visited Hogsmade in Orlando 2 years ago… It was delicious!

Overall, it was such a fun and very well organized activity.  I heard they may have a Harry Potter Christmas ball!!!  If they do, I know I’ll be there, with Voldermort present or not.  Until then, I’ll continue flying and playing wizard in my dreams… Wingardium Leviosa!
