cruising straight to halloween

It’s almost time! Halloween is upon us! And we are READY!!!

The candies have been bought, the decorations have been up for a while, we have a regular requests for Halloween pajama comes bedtime, and now we have a daily Halloween parade happening every night in our house, cause I am FINALLY done with their Cars costumes! Although I’ve spent a lot of time making some pretty amazing Halloween costumes for my friends and I over the years, especially back in our early twenty’s when we would go out all night on Halloween night and win prizes, well this year’s costumes will definitely go down as the most time consuming, space taking and glue gunning costumes EVER. If the kids complain about the weight of their costumes, I’m blaming it on the glue! And then I’m telling them to shut up and forcing them to wear it a little more! (I’d like to specify that I won’t really be doing that; got to be careful with humor nowadays).

So, I’ve always been Cars obsessed, like, ever since the first movie came out… and this was one of the first Pixar movie I’ve showed the boys… and just like me, they’ve been in love with McQueen and his friends since. But last year, our love for Cars grew to a whole new level after we visited Cars Land at Disney California Adventure. So, since going to Disney, with the last Cars movie coming up last summer, it basically was a McQueen year at our house with Cars everywhere. I knew the second I saw a boxed costume of McQueen on Pinterest that I needed to step up my glue-gunning-skills and get to work. Cause after all, I needed 2 cars.

Back in August, I loaded my house with huge cardboard boxes I was able to find, and then invaded my kitchen with fabrics and all kinds of crafty thing I knew I’d need for this project. Now that they’re done, I can say I am in LOVE with how they turned out; just not sure it was worth the 15 hours it took to make each of them. Yep, I guess I really love Cars and craft and Halloween to spend that much time on DIY kids costumes. But I mostly did it before the admiring eyes of my boys, looking at it every steps of the way (probably wondering when it would actually look like Cars!), sometimes helping me, so it was all worth it!

Liam wanted to be Cruz Ramirez, and Logan, his beloved Lightning. So after many hours of works, last Sunday morning, both cars were finally declared done and ready for a test drive. One look at them riding their new cars and I knew it was well worth the mess. They kept on running and laughing and bumping each other, and then even agreed to go out to take pictures. Liam even asked me to put a Cars song on my cell phone and put it in his car to make like a car radio… so he was cruising while listening to the Cars soundtrack… I just love when they ask for small things like that that reminds me of things I would have also asked as a kid. He’s after my heart this one! He also requested a Cars Day. I guess I’m rubbing off on him! So now we’re planning to have one of those on November 7 when the new movie will be out on Blue Ray, so they can sit in their cars and watch the movie, Drive-In style!

But for now, we’ll continue to parade in our costumes, and you might even spot us on the streets, dancing and singing ‘Life could be a dream, life could be a dream, sha-boom, sha-boom’! All that, of course, while patiently waiting for October 31st for the real Lightning and Cruz parade. Hoping the next few days go by fast so I can eat some of my kids mini chocolate bars! Ka-Chow!!!

31 ways to celebrate fall

So by now you probably know that I’m a crazy person comes October; but even if I try, I just can’t help it! October means it’s ALMOST Halloween, and yep, that gets me sooo excited!!! And when comes Halloween, I want people around me to be excited as well.  So this year I’ve created a fun and exciting to-do list (hello checkmarks!) for the 31 days of October for you and your family.

It’s not a calendar, nor something you have to do every day (but you CAN if you’re even more into this than I am!!!); it’s just fun little ways to incorporate Fall into your daily life and spreading PSL (Pumpkin Spice Love!). So grab a pen and write these down.

31 ways to celebrate Fall

1- Buy festive PJ’s… hum hello… you should clearly do this for EVERY holiday!

2- Make scary pizza. As you know, pizza is my number one go to themed fun food.  See the pictures of the fun pizzas I’ve made over the weekend.

3- Visit a pumpkin patch.

4- Decorate your house.  And buy mini-pumpkins for the family rooms and fall garlands for the beds.

5- Buy a new cozy scarf.  Find someone who needs to spoil you… or just do it yourself!

6- Watch Hocus Pocus… kinda cheated… as I’ve been watching it since early September.

7- Make homemade costume. My husband would surely like to cross that one off that list; as it’s been costume central in the entire kitchen for the last few weeks!

8- Jump in a pile of leaves… you’re never too old.

9- Make this French Onion Soup recipe.

10- Go on a hike to enjoy the Autumn leaves color.

11- Carve pumpkins and roast pumpkin seeds.

12- Buy a Pumpkin Spice Latte for a friend.

13- Buy a Fall scented candle.

14- Visit a corn maze!

15- Make a pumpkin spice loaf.

16- Go to an Oktoberfest party… of course we have our tickets for this weekend Beau’s Oktoberfest!

17- Wear Uggs… not going to wear mine this weekend at Beau’s Oktoberfest; supposed to be something like 40 degrees out there!

18- Sit outside and read a book or magazine with a warm blanket.

19- Watch football with a bowl of chili.

20- Buy yourself some Fall flowers.

21- Visit a Farmers Market.

22- Watch Baseball playoff and sing Sweet Caroline. Yeah, I’m a Red Sox fan!  Go Sox!

23- Watch Nightmare Before Christmas.

24- Have a Fall picnic.

25- Watch Casper… still remember when I saw that movie at 12 years old… God I was in love with Devon Sawa!

26- Make pretzel… this recipe is awesome. Will probably make it on a Red Sox game day.

27- Do a Halloween craft with the kids.

28- Go horseback riding.  That is just so much fun.

29- Make candy apples.  The kids will love it!

30- Organize or go to an Halloween party!

31- Trick or Treat.

Hope this list inspires you to be festive this season. I know I’ve got plenty lined up for the next month… It’s on the list, but don’t do this just once; and enjoy as many pumpkin flavored anything as you can!!! It’s only here for a few weeks! So we may see each other at Starbucks in the coming weeks!

Happy Fall and Prost y’all.

liam turns bb-6

Our weekend shenanigans are over!  2 days, 3 birthday parties and 67 guests later…we are done!  Our  little man turned six on Friday.  How did this happened?  Six???  Maybe 3 or 4 but 6…bye bye baby.  It’s hard to see your first child growing up and it does go by so fast.  He’s changed so much in the last few months, he’s less clingy, talks with lots of new words and ask for our help much less than
before and the worst, he gives less kisses.  My heart is torn.  So I will stop with the drama of having a 6 years old and talk about our weekend festivities!

So I like a good party and my boys too!  A few months before their birthday, we talk about what they like, what they want and who they want to be there.  Star Wars was an easy theme, the boys still haven’t seen the movies but that’s about to change because we received them for his birthday.  Guest list, we have a big close family, we want everybody, so we had our friends come over for pizza on Friday night, a few of his school friends came yesterday morning and our families came over for some roasted hot dogs and cake last night!

Cakes, it’s always about the cakes!  I love making my babies their cakes.   It makes me so happy to create the things they love in sugar!  I made 6 cakes.  Baked  and decorated them all after school this week.  Star Wars decoration were really easy to find, lots from the $store, lots free on Pinterest and I bought the invitations and photo booth accessories from Etsy.  I made my t-shirt, another idea from Pinterest and Brian and the boys attire came from Gap Kids and Old Navy.  Bought some cheap wrapping paper before Christmas for the photo booth wall (new found favorite of Logan, taking photo booth pictures…we have at least 100!)

When we went to Boston in the fall, we visited one of my favorite stores, Pottery Barn Kids.  I love this place!  They have a Star Wars line that is to die for.  I want the Star Wars sleeping bags sooo badly.  I fell in loving with their marquee lit up sign.  I decided I (well I mean Frank) could do this way cheaper, like for less than 25$.  Found some Christmas string lights in clearance, painted a piece of wood, Frank drilled the sign and added the frame.  Put in the light and bingo, I had the most awesome marquee sign EVER.  I will put it up in their playroom, the light bulbs are in plastic, so unbreakable!  Win-win!

Of course we had a few games.  Our favorite, donuts-on-a-string, always a hit!  We decorated Star Wars cookies.  Also played, place the lightsaber on Yoda.  A BB-8 pinata was a must.  And we had the NOT so brilliant idea of buying lightsabers for all kids…do NOT attempt this when you are outnumbered!  I made little Jedi costumes for all the kids and took lots of photo booth pictures.

Food, we had soooo much.  Pizza, fries and poutine, wings, cookies, Princess Leia’s Buns, candy, chips, hot dogs, cupcakes, Edible Ewoks, Liam’s favorite raspberry pie, Yoda’s guacamole and CAKE!  I’m no eating until the next birthday…well maybe not but I do need to recover from this weekend!

So today we took down the decorations, played with toys and looked at all the pictures we took.  We love parties, we love our family and friends and most of all, we love our babies.  Happy Birthday Liam.  You deserve all the time we spent for your parties and more!  You’ve been one amazing little boy since the moment you were born.

Our costumes for this year are a bit different from the last few years… my boys are growing up and so are their tastes!  So I went with it!

They don’t know anything about Star Wars…for a long time they called it CarWar.  They’ve never watched a movie or show, know what Star Wars’ about or what they stand for.  But last summer, Liam went on the Star Wars 3D ride in Disneyland at 10:30 pm for his last ride of the day and came out a fan.  The following day everything Liam wanted was some CarWar stuff; so did his baby brother!

So, in 2016, we are officially Star Wars fans (I grew up watching the movies, but Brian had never heard about them until I came in the picture and dressed up as Queen Amidala in grade 13).  I still wanted to make our costumes; Liam as BB8, Logan as R2D2 or has he calls him Hardy-too, Brian as Chewbacca (not included in our pictures because of his major lack of fun-ness!) and myself as Princess Leia (I have the hair so why not used it!).

My mom knitted some hats for the boys and I sowed and glued their robot costumes (probably the easiest of costumes ever made).  So they were not too complicated to do, but they are just so nice!  We went to a very shady part of Brian’s hometown for the pictures, a place call Peace Mountain, which was perfect for taking pictures, but a place I don’t recommend visiting alone, especially if you’re easily scared like my chicken-shit Chewbacca!

Now, we can’t wait to decorate our pumpkins and make special treat bags for our friends.  Only 1 more week to go!

I love family themed costumes, I hope they’ll let me do it for a bit longer!

So what’s your costume this year?
